Kwasi Okyere Wriedt won the 2019/2020 Player of the Season and the top scorers award in the German third tier league (Bundesliga 3) with Bayern Munich, but who’s he?
Born 10 July 1994 to Ghanaian parents in Hamburg, Kwasi started his career at local side SC Hamm 02. The youngster’s natural talent and achievements saw him attract the attention of several Hamburg football clubs.
Kwasi joined FC St. Pauli’s youth team and he eventually established himself as a key part of the team, scoring 14 times in 58 games.
After spending 3 seasons with St. Pauli’s youth team, the youngster joined fellow fourth-leaguers Lüneberger SK Hansa for the 2015/16 season. Wriedt didn’t fail to impress as he scored 23 goals in 34 matches and helped Hansa finish two spots above rivals and erstwhile club St. Pauli.
After just a season with Hansa, the young clinical forward secured a move to third league side VfL Osnabrück, he instantly made himself fans favorite by finishing as Osnabrück’s top scorer with 12 league goals.
Kwasi Okyere’s rapid growth attracted the attention of Bayern Munich, he in October 2017 joined Bayern Munich and in the same month made his senior Bayern Munich appearance.
He came on as a substitute in the 101st minute for Thiago Alcantara in a DFB Pokal game against Leipzig last year. In that match, he almost claimed the game winner with a header that smashed off the bar.
The match finished 1–1 after extra time, with Bayern advancing after winning 5–4 in a penalty shoot-out.

On 1 July 2020, Bayern confirmed Wriedt has left the club and will join Dutch Willem II on a 3-year contract. A new adventure for the Ghanaian international.
Wriedt’s style of play is compared to the legendary Raul, he’s quick and has the capability of scoring both in and outside the penalty area with his accurate and powerful shot. He possessed excellent ball control and technical ability, and was effective in the air as well.
The 26-year-old can play in a variety of forward positions. Wriedt is an ultra-reliable man of steel. He has not missed a match through injury since February 2015, while playing as part of St. Pauli’s reserve side.
Jerome Boateng described Wriedt as a “natural born talent”, surely a talent the Black Stars can count on as they look into a new direction with new manager CK Akonnor.
