The long wait was finally over, Kudus Mohammed made his first appearance for Ajax in a preseason friendly game against Austrian side Wolfsberger.
Kudus, who joined Ajax a month ago for €9m from Nordsjælland missed out on the club’s first two preseason games because of work permit issues.
The 20-year-old was named on the substitute bench and was introduced into the game right after the recess.
Kudus Mohammed wasted no time, he made good use of the opportunity and left a strong impression. He was all over the field showing his potential and played a huge part in Ajax’s second goal.
Kudus Mohammed’s performance left the fans of club impressed and Rafael van der Vaart who watched the burgeoning midfielder keenly didn’t feel any different.
“It’s all football. So much control, overview, cheeky, smart”, Van der Vaart sums up about the twenty-year-old summer acquisition.
“It’s a really great purchase, if you see it now. Of course you have to wait and see how things go in the competition, but if you can do this then I understand.”
Speaking to Ajax TV after the game, the youngster expressed how he felt after his debut.
“It feels great to be playing for a big club like Ajax Amsterdam,”
“I feel at home in the team and I have settled in well here with my new teammates which is really good for me going into the season,” he added.
Ajax won the game 2-0, with Quincy Promes and Ryan Gravenberch grabbing the goals.
The Dutch champions will play Red Bull Salzburg on Saturday.
The 2020/21 Eredivisie commences on September 13.
