‘Football talent hunter’, Joshua Awuah, popularly known as “Ayoba” has described Ajax new signee Kudus Mohammed as someone who has a lion’s heart.
Kudus, who recently joined Ajax on a five-year deal worth €9m from Nordsjælland was discovered by Joshua Awuah.
Joshua Awuah discovered Kudus Mohammed at the age of 9. He picked the youngster up on the streets of Nima and never doubted his talent or capabilities.
“He was playing football next to the road,” Awuah told VICE Sports.
“I saw that the guy could play football well. He had a special technique. So I went to his family to ask if I could train him.”
Joshua Awuah after a good work on Kudus sold the youngster to Right to Dream academy, where he had the chance to travel abroad and play for Danish side Nordsjælland.
“I told Right to Dream beforehand that Kudus was better than all their players. They didn’t believe it. I said to Kudus, ‘I want you to play really well so they can see what you can do.’ Well, Kudus scored and played great. He proved me right, and he still does.”
He expressed his joy seeing the 19-year-old defy all odds to move from the dirt and crummy pitches of the slummy Nima to playing for 1995 Champions league winners Ajax.
“I am very happy that Kudus is going to Ajax. The club is good for young players,” he said.
“From Nima (slum in the Ghanaian capital Accra) Only strong people come. Everyone here is brave, we have no fear here. Kudus has a lion’s heart. Ajax will see that.”
Joshua Awuah is known in the footballing circles as a “Talent hunter”. He also discovered Majeed Ashimeru, Ibrahim Sulley, Inter Allies’ Desmond Abugah and many more.
