Gameweek 9 brought us another set of exciting fixtures. A total of 15 goals were scored, with 5 of those goals coming from the penalty spot.

We take a look at how things unfolded in all 9 games:

KING FAISAL 1-1 WAFA

King Faisal welcomed WAFA to the Baba Yara Sports Stadium as they hope to secure their first win of the season. The home side had the first chance of the game, Ibrahim Osman’s shot hit the crossbar, goalkeeper Ato Bilson did well to save the rebound from Adu Gyamfi. Goalkeeper Ato Bilson was called to action again in the 33rd minute, he pulled off a decent save to deny Samuel Kusi from opening the scoring. WAFA had the chance to open the scoring in the 66th munite, Eric Asamany was brought down in the box. Skipper Ibrahim Abubakari stepped up and converted the penalty, 1-0 to WAFA. King Faisal started to pile pressure on WAFA, the pressure finally paid off in the 90th minute, substitute Samuel Moya was brought down in the box. Mustapha Mohammed coolly slotted the ball home to make it 1-1. There was little time for more drama, the game ended 1-1. King Faisal still lie bottom of the league and are yet to win a game this season. Ibrahim Abubakari was named man of the match.

INTER ALLIES 1-1 LEGON CITIES

Inter Allies were held at home by the defiant Legon Cities. The home side opened the scoring in the 14th minute, ragged midfielder Desmond Abugah was brought down in the 18 yard box by Fadile Yussif. Who else would you trust for such nervy moment? Victorien Adebayor stepped up and coolly slotted the ball home. Abdul Karim Jabila in the 42nd minute came close to leveling matters, he dazzled his way through the Inter Allies defense, but his effort was saved by goalkeeper Gideon Ahenkorah for a corner, the resulting corner resulted into nothing. The first half ended 1-0 in favor of Inter Allies. Legon Cities in the second half stepped their name up, Abdul Karim Jabila and Abdul Wahab came close to grabbing the equalizer. Legon Cities were awarded a penalty in the 70th minute, Cephas Doku was brought down by goalkeeper Gideon Ahenkorah after a decent run. Abdul Karim Jabila stepped up and sent the goalkeeper the wrong way to restore parity, 1-1. Referee after 4 minutes of added time brought the game to end, 1-1 the final score line. Jeffery Degorl was named man of the match.

ADUANA STARS 0-0 HEARTS OF OAK

The game between Hearts of Oak and Aduana Stars at the Nana Agyemang Badu Park ended scoreless. Both teams produced some good football and create good chances, but none was able to find the net. Joseph Esso came close to breaking the deadlock with a freekick from distance in the 25th minute, his effort went wide. Kofi Kordzi at the start of the second half also had the opportunity to change the scoreline, his effort after a good team move struck the post. The game at the end of 90 minutes ended scoreless, the second scoreless game for Hearts of Oak in a matter of days. Caleb Amankwah of Aduana Stars was named man of the match.

ASHANTI GOLD 1-0 LIBERTY PROFESSIONALS

Ashanti Gold recorded their 5th win of the season after defeating Liberty Professionals 1-0 at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium. The home side had good opportunities to open the scoring in the early minutes. Appiah McCarthy, Latif Anabila and Benedict Wonenu couldn’t convert their chances. The first goal of the game came in the dying embers of the first half, Ashanti Gold were awarded a spot kick after a cross from Amos Nkrumah was handled in the box. Appiah McCarthy converted the resulting penalty, 1-0 to Ashanti Gold at the interval. Liberty Professionals stepped their game up in the second half, they had a glorious opportunity in the 73rd minute to restore parity, Abraham Wayo couldn’t convert the chance. The game ended 1-0. Liberty recorded consecutive losses and their first away defeat of the season. Appiah McCarthy was adjudged man of the match.

BECHEM UNITED 0-0 EBUSUA DWARFS

Bechem United dropped their first point at home after being held by Ebusua Dwarfs. The home dominated most of the game, but they couldn’t break the defiant Ebusua Dwarfs. The draw was the first clean sheet Ebusua Dwarfs have kept this season and the first point they’ve picked away from home all season. Bechem United’s Karim Abdul was named Nasco man of the match.

DREAMS 0-1 ASANTE KOTOKO

Dreams after losing to Hearts of Oak at the Theatre of Dreams last weekend were hoping they can make things right this time round by sinking Asante Kotoko. The first big chance of the game fell to Richard Addae in the 18th minute. Kwame Otu after a quick corner sent in a beautiful cross, Richard Addae connected with the ball but he couldn’t keep his effort down. Dantani Amadu was shown a second yellow and then a red card in the 36th minute. A man advantage to Asante Kotoko. Kotoko begun to mount pressure on Dreams. Martin Antwi nearly opened the scoring before the break, his shot from outside the box struck the upright. The game went into the break scoreless. Abdul Bashiru nearly gave Dreams a surprise lead in the 65th minute, he went past 5 Kotoko players, but couldn’t round the beautiful moment with a goal, his short was off target. The first goal of the game came in the 68th minute, Abdul Bashiru put the ball in his own net, he failed to clear a freekick from Imoro Ibrahim, 1-0 to Asante Kotoko. William Opoku Mensah nearly made it 2 for Kotoko in the 76th minute, but his effort was cleared off the line for a corner. The game ended 1-0, Asante Kotoko the winners on the day. Dreams sink at home in two consecutive games.

ELMINA SHARKS 3-1 BEREKUM CHELSEA

Elmina Sharks recorded their first victory at home after beating league leaders Berekum Chelsea by 3-1. Benjamin Boateng opened the scoring in the 3rd minute with a powerful volley with his left foot. Kofi Owusu restored parity in the 15th minute, he hit a thunderbolt from a Jonathan Attuquaye cut in. Bernard Boateng scored again the 58th minute to put Elmina Sharks in the lead once again. Elmina Sharks confirmed all 3 points in 68th minute, Benjamin Boateng scored again to make it 3 for his side and 3 for himself on the day. The game ended 3-1. Elmina Sharks recorded their first win at home as Berekum Chelsea suffered their second defeat of the season. Benjamin Boateng was named Nasco man of the match.

GREAT OLYMPICS 1-2 ELEVEN WONDERS

Eleven Wonders recorded their first away win since joining the elite league and first away win this season after defeating Olympics by 2-1. Sulley Musa opened the scoring for Eleven Wonders in the 12th minute. Gladson Awako restored parity in 26th minute. Ibrahim Salifu scored in the 31st minute to put Eleven Wonders in front once more. The first half ended 2-1, Olympics went it the break trailing. Olympics pushed forward for the equalizer in the second half, but there was no way they couldn’t break the resilient Eleven Wonders. The game ended 2-1 in favor of the Techiman side. Goal scorer Ibrahim Salifu was named man of the match.

KARELA 1-1 MEDEAMA

The “Derby de la Akoon” between Karela United and Medeama ended in a stalemate, 1-1. Karela opened the scoring in the 28th minute, Diawisie Taylor scored to make it 1-0 to Karela. Karela were on the verge of recording a historic win over Medeama, but Prince Opoku Agyemang had different ideas. He converted a sublime cross from Joseph Tetteh Zutah with a powerful header in the 83rd minute to make it 1-1. The game at the end of 90 minutes and added time ended 1-1. Karela’s Emmanuel Keyekeh was named man of the match.
