Posted by The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced that Genk winger Joseph Paintsil has withdrawn from the Black Stars squad for the final Group E game of the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Central African Republic.
The Technical team of the Black Stars granted the Belgium-based winger the permission to return to his club in Belgium due to an injury.
Joseph Paintsil sustained the injury in the last period of Genk’s league game against Anderlecht on Sunday and was later substituted.
Despite the injury, Paintsil honored the invitation by Chris Hughton. However, medical checks indicates that he will be unable to feature in the crucial game scheduled for 4pm kick off at the Baba Yara Sports stadium on Thursday, September 07, 2023.
Per a statement from the Ghana FA, Paintsil will return to his club immediately to commence rehabilitation.
The situation leaves Chris Hughton with 24 players to prepare for the match on Thursday.
