Posted by The 2023 Gbese Mantse Homowo Charity Cup between bitterest rivals Hearts of Oak and Great Olympics has been cancelled for the second consecutive season, a statement has revealed.
The game was scheduled to be played on Sunday, August 20, 2023 but has been called off after Great Olympics wrote to the organizers seeking to withdrawal.
As at the time of writing, the reason for the withdrawal hasn’t been revealed.
“The Homowo cup match between Accra Hearts of Oak and Accra Great Olympics scheduled for Sunday, August 20, 2023, has been called off,” a statement from the organizers read.
“This development has been necessitated by a late withdrawal from the said match by Accra Great Olympics.”
“We apologise unreservedly to Ni Dr Ayi Bonte- Gbese Mantse, the Ghana Football Association, Accra Hearts of Oak SC, the media, and all football enthusiasts for this unfortunate development,” the statement ended.
The Gbese Mantse Homowo Charity Cup is a special football match designed to honour Royal Majesty Nii Dr. Ayi Bonte II, and forms part of the Homowo celebration.
