Joseph Aidoo and Celta Vigo escape relegation on final day, Iddrisu Baba and Lumor Agbenyenu go down with Mallorca

It was a late escape for Joseph Aidoo and Celta Vigo as they avoided relegation on the final day of the season.

A scoreless game against the already relegated Espanyol in Barcelona was enough to keep Celta Vigo in La Liga for another season.

The Sky Blues had to rely on results elsewhere, Leganes fought back twice but it wasn’t enough as their game against the 34th champions of La Liga, Real Madrid ended 2-2.

Leganes’ draw meant that they finished the season with 36 points, whiles Celta Vigo finished with 37 points.

For Iddrisu Baba, Lumor Agbenyenu and Real Mallorca, relegation was confirmed after a 2-1 defeat at home to high flying Granada in gameweek 37.

Lumor Agbenyenu however ended the season with a mix mood, the right back scored in the dying embers of the first half to cancel Osasuna’s early lead, but it was his error that allowed Osasuna the chance to score in the 68th minute to make it 2-2.

Baba Rahman also featured for Mallorca this season, but the left back couldn’t complete the season with Mallorca after the Spanish side failed to extend his loan contract that expired on June 30. Baba Rahman returned to his parent club Chelsea.

Lumor Agbenyenu and Iddrisu Baba will next season be playing in La Liga 2. For Joseph Aidoo, life in Spain’s top flight league continues.
