Columbus Crew SC center-back Jonathan Mensah has been named in the 2020 Major League Soccer (MLS) Best XI.
The Ghanaian international had a stellar season with Columbus Crew, featuring in every minute (2,070) for the team in the regular MLS season.
Mensah’s performances hasn’t gone unnoticed and he has been rewarded by the media, MLS players and club technical staff with a place in the MLS team of the season, becoming the 12th player in Crew SC history to achieve the honor.
“We want to congratulate Jonathan on earning this worthy recognition as one of the top players in MLS in 2020,” said Crew SC President and General Manager Tim Bezbatchenko
“Jonathan has been one of our key performers since earning the captain’s role, playing every minute of every match for the Club during a long and at times incredibly compact season.
“He has been pivotal to the success of our backline this year and a large reason why we had one of the best defensive records in the league during the regular season.
“We are proud of Jonathan’s accomplishments and we know he will continue to perform at a high level during the playoffs,” he added.
Mensah’s inclusion in the MLS team of the season was disclosed to him by his wife in a lovely short video.

The 30-year-old center back is joined on the list by Andre Blake, Mark McKenzie, Walker Zimmerman, Brenden Aaronson, Diego Chara, Nicolas Lodeiro, Alejandro Pozuelo, Jordan Morris, Diego Rossi and Raul Ruidiaz.
Jonathan Mensah will hope he can continue is good form for Columbus Crew in the MLS playoffs. Columbus Crew will play New York Red Bulls on Saturday evening.
