Ghana’s first choice goalkeeper Jojo Wollacott has reportedly been ruled of the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

Jojo Wollacott was due to start for Charlton Athletic in their 3-3 away draw against Burton Albion on Saturday. However, he pulled out of the game during the prematch warm-up due to what has been disclosed as a finger injury.

“He [Wollacott] caught the end of his finger in the warm-up. He’ll get scanned as soon as we get back down to London. We’re hoping and praying that it is nothing because he’s due to fly out to the World Cup tomorrow,” head coach Ben Garner revealed after the game.

Per a report from Joy Sports, Jojo Wollacott underwent a scan and his injury is serious than first thought, one which rules him out of the World Cup which kicks off next weekend and will see Ghana play Portugal, Uruguay and South Korea in the group stages

Wollacott who has established himself as Ghana’s first choice goalkeeper since making his debut against Zimbabwe in October 2021 was due to be named in the final squad to be announced on Monday, December 14, 2022.

Meanwhile, Richard Ofori is racing against time to be for the Mundial. The experience shot-stopper was listed injured ahead of Orlando Pirates’ Carling Cup clash against Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday.
