Host nation Cameroon progressed into the semifinal of the 2021 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) after beating debutants Gambia 2-0.
The first half of the game saw no goals but Cameroon completely dominated the half. Goalkeeper Baboucarr Gaye pulled some great saves to deny the tournament’s top scorer Vincent Abubakar.
The second half of the game presented us with a different story, Cameroon wasted no time in taking the lead, Teko Ekambi leapt high and headed in a good crossing from Collins Fai.
Seven minutes later, Teko Ekambi extended his side’s lead, tapping the ball into the net from close range to send his goal scoring tally in the competition to 5, just a goal behind teammate and top scorer Vincent Abubakar.
The Indomitable Lions from thereon comfortably saw the game out and will face either Egypt or Morocco in the semifinal.
In the Second semifinal, Dango Ouattara scored the only goal of the game to earn Burkina Faso a 1-0 victory against Tunisia. Their 3rd successive victory against the Carthage Eagles in the Quarterfinals of the AFCON.
The game had a cagey start and was short of clear cut chances. Just seconds to the break, Burkina Faso stunned Tunisia, Dango Quattara opened the scoring with a great solo effort.
At the start of the second half, Burkina Faso had the chance to double their lead, Ibrahim Blati Toure was sent through on goal but sent his effort straight at Benchir Ben Said.
Tunisia started to dominate the game but Burkina Faso kept things tight at the back. In the 83rd minute, goal scorer Dango Quattara was sent off after a VAR check for an elbow on the opposition.
Despite being a man down, Burkina Faso defended gallantly in the remaining minutes to win 1-0 and set a semifinal clash with one of Senegal and Equatorial Guinea.
