Ibrahim Tanko has named a provisional Twenty-nine man squad for camping ahead of the TotalEnergies U-23 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Morocco.
The Black Meteors will depart Accra on Monday, June 12, 2023 for Cairo where they will camp for two weeks and engage in series of friendlies before the competition.
The team has been training at the Ghanaman Centre of Excellence at Prampram ahead of the trip to Cairo.
In the provisional squad are the likes of Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, Daniel Afriyie Barnieh, Emmanuel Essiam, Salim Adam, Jordan Amissah, Emmanuel Yeboah and so on.
Ernest Nuamah, Kamaldeen Sulemana and Ransford-Yeboah Koniigsdoffer who are part of the Black Stars squad for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Madagascar will join the Black Meteors after the match on June 18, 2023.
Ghana is paired with host Morocco, Guinea and Congo in Group A of the competition which will serve as qualifiers for the next Olympics in Paris, France.
The Black Meteors will kickoff their campaign against Congo on Saturday, June 24, before playing Morocco on Tuesday, June 27 and then Guinea on Friday, June 30.
The top three teams from the competition which will be played from Saturday, June 24 to Saturday, July 8, 2023 automatically qualify to the Olympics, while the 4th-placed team will play against a team from Asia in a playoffs to decide the final slot at the Olympics.
Ghana missed out on the 2020 Olympics in Japan after finishing 4th at the U-23 AFCON in Egypt – 2019. The Black Meteors are yet to play at the Olympic Games since 2004 in Greece.
