Ibrahim Tanko drops six (6) players from Ghana’s final squad for U-23 AFCON

Six players have been dropped from Ghana’s final squad for the TotalEnergies U-23 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Morocco.

The six players dropped from the preliminary 29-man squad include; Kamaldeen Sulemana (Southampton), Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer (Hamburger), Kwadwo Opoku Mahala (Los Angeles FC), William Essu (Legon Cities) and Emmanuel Adjei (Attram De Visser Academy).

Kamaldeen Sulemana, Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer and Kwadwo Opoku were not included in the final team after they failed to honor the call-up due to varied reasons.

Despite not honoring the call-up, Kamaldeen Sulemana and Kwadwo Opoku are amongst 26 players registered by Ghana for the competition which will kickoff on Saturday, June 24 and will run till Saturday, July 8, 2022.

For William Essu and Emmanuel Adjei, they were conspicuously left out by the technical team.

Ghana at the U-23 AFCON will face Congo on Sunday, June 25, Morocco on Tuesday, June 27 and then Guinea on Friday, June 30.

The Black Meteors are poised to sail through the Group stage to the semis as they target one of the three automatic slots to participate in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

The last time Ghana participated in the Olympic Games Men’s Soccer event was in 2004 in Athens.
