I missed a flight for Stephen Appiah’s sake- John Mensah

Ex skipper of the Black Stars John Mensah has revealed that he once missed a flight for Stephen Appiah because security men at the airport didn’t want Appiah to go.

‘The Rock of Gibraltar’ disclosed that Stephen Appiah was held hostage by the security men at the airport because he was carrying huge sums of money.

John Mensah who didn’t know why Stephen Appiah was held hostage stepped in and had an altercation with the security personnel. The reason behind Appiah’s arrest was later explained to him.

John Mensah on a program on Gtv sports plus narrated the incident.

“It was in 2004. Stephen, Sulley and I went to the airport to fly to Italy together. Sulley and I made it past all security but we realized Stephen was not with us,”

“We waited until the security came and told me that they were holding Stephen up. I got angry and had an argument with them. We really created a scene at the airport

“Later, they called me into a room and explained to me that Stephen was holding money and they did not want him to take it past them. I missed the flight in the end because Stephen did not go.”

John Mensah for most time of his Black Stars career was Stephen Appiah’s deputy captain.
