Huge blow for Ghana as Thomas Partey and Daniel Amartey are ruled out of Central African Republic AFCON qualifier

Ghana has been dealt with a huge blow for their final game of the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Central African Republic following injuries to key men Thomas Partey and Daniel Amartey.

Per a statement from the Ghana FA, Thomas Partey picked up an injury while training with Arsenal for this weekend’s crucial league clash against Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium.

“Arsenal ace Thomas Partey is left out of the squad due to injury. According to his club, the player picked up an injury in training and could be on the sidelines for a while, however the Black Stars medical teams is monitoring the situation,” said the Ghana FA in a statement announcing the squad for the AFCON qualifier.

Daniel Amartey is also ruled out of the game after sustaining an injury in training earlier this weeks. Per reports, the injury will keep the center-back out for two weeks.

The injury to the influential duo is a big blow to the Black Stars who are scheduled to take on the Central African Republic on Thursday, September 7.

Ghana need a win or a draw to secure a place at the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) to be played in the Cote D’Ivoire in January and February next year.

The Black Stars after 5 group games sit top of Group E with 9 points. Angola sit second with 8 points, Central Africa Republic sit third with 7 points and Madagascar bottom with 2 points.
