Hearts still winless, King Faisal pick first win, Eleven Wonders handed first defeat: Gameweek 4 Review

Gameweek 4 presented us with yet another set of enthralling fixtures. 6 games were played, with the games between Bechem United vs AshantiGold and Medeama vs Asante Kotoko postponed due to the involvement of AshantiGold and Kotoko in CAF inter-club competitions.

Whiles the game between Great Olympics and Ebusua Dwarfs which was supposed to take place at the Accra Sports Stadium was postponed after Kotoko’s Champions league game was postponed from Saturday to Sunday due to Covid-19 scare.

Only 4 goals were scored in the 6 games played. We take a look at how things unfolded in the 6 games:

ELMINA SHARKS 1-0 ADUANA STARS

Elmina Sharks after drawing their first 3 games defeated Aduana Stars 1-0 to record their first win of the season. Caleb Amankwaah and Nathan came close to open the scoring for Aduana Stars, Caleb Amankwaah saw his header go wide whiles Nathan’s kick hit the crossbar. Richard Mpong scored for Sharks in the 23rd minute. The remaining minutes saw the two sides create some good chances, but the best chance fell to Elmina Sharks’ Bright Adjei who failed to beat goalkeeper Joseph Addo in a 1 on 1 situation.

Man of the Match: Benjamin Arthur (Elmina Sharks)

KING FAISAL 1-0 INTER ALLIES

King Faisal defeated Inter Allies 1-0 to pick their first 3 points of the season. Kwame Peprah missed a huge opportunity in the 43rd minute to open the scoring for King Faisal. The striker after a beautiful one two with Frimpong saw his chip saved by Rashid Seidu. The only goal of the game came in the 86th minute, Samuel Kusi scored to break the hearts of Inter Allies and hand King Faisal their first win of the season.

HEARTS OF OAK 0-0 KARELA UNITED

Hearts of Oak stumbled once again has they failed to beat Karela United at the Accra Sports Stadium. The first half of the game saw fewer chances, Hearts of Oak dominated the half but the best chance fell to Karela, Mohammed Alhassan blocked a goal bound effort from Franklin Osei. Hearts of Oak continued their domination in the second half, Mitchelle Sarpong missed a glories opportunity in the opening minutes of the second half, he failed to score from close range. Mitchelle Sarpong came close again minutes later, he rattled the woodwork after a good work by Patrick Razak. The Phobians pushed and pushed but failed to hit the back of the net.

BEREKUM CHELSEA 1-0 LIBERTY PROFESSIONALS

Berekum Chelsea recorded their first victory of the season after defeating Liberty Professionals 1-0. Ganiwu Shaibu pulled off a great save to prevent Chelsea from opening the scoring in the 10th minute. Emmanuel Clottey broke the deadlock on the stroke of half time. Liberty Professionals returned from the break pushing men forward with the hope of grabbing the equalizer, but to no avail.

Man of the match: Ainsu Henry (Liberty Professionals)

DREAMS 0-0 LEGON CITIES

Dreams FC and Legon Cities drew scoreless at the Theatre of Dreams. Dreams FC saw more of the ball in the first half, but Legon Cities came the closest to scoring, two efforts from Baba Mahama was smartly stopped by Solomon Agbasi. Stakes were high for the second half, both sides continued to search for the opener, but Dreams were reduced to 10 men in the 60th minute, Solomon Agbasi was sent off after he came off his line and brought Jonah Attuquaye down. Ibrahim Issah had the ball at the back of the net for Dreams, but the goal was ruled out for offside. With a man advantage, Legon pushed Dreams to the wall, but substitute goalkeeper Godfred Amoh was there to answer all questions asked by Dreams. Emmanuel Ocran nearly stole all three points for Dreams in the latter stages of the game, his effort struck the post.

Man of the match: Baba Mahama (Legon Cities)

ELEVEN WONDERS 0-1 WAFA

Eleven Wonders suffered their first defeat of the season in the hands of WAFA. Both teams were forced to make subs in the opening minutes of the game due to injuries, Wonders subbed of Tetteh Nortey for Prince Baffoe, whiles WAFA subbed off Eric Asamany for Sampson Agyapong. Augustine Boakye gave WAFA the lead in the 33rd minute. Despite both sides playing beautifully, the game saw no other goal.
