The decision hasn’t gone down well with most fans of the club, including the NCC who had a brief discussion with the player at the funeral grounds of Benjamin Afutu’s mother, with the aim of changing his mind.

Speaking in an interview with Kumasi-based radio station Nhyira FM, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the NNC, Kobby Jones revealed that it will discuss the controversial exit of Esso in it next meeting.
“There is no action without reaction. Esso’s contract extension issue started long ago. I can’t blame Joseph Esso for demanding huge money”, he said.
“The departure of Joseph Esso is unfortunate for us because he’s our talisman. I’m telling you there is no Hearts of Oak supporter who is happy with that decision to release Esso. The NCC will meet and when we meet, we’ll look at it”, he added.
Esso joined Hearts of Oak from Ebusua Dwarfs in February 2018 and instantly became an integral member of the team and a fan’s favorite.
He scored 3 goals in his 14 appearances for Hearts of Oak in the trucated 2019/20 Ghana Premier League season.
The 23-year-old was a member of the team that represented Ghana at the WAFU Championship in Senegal last year. He netted two goals and inspired the Black Stars B team to the finals losing to eventual winners Senegal.
