Accra Hearts of Oak has appointed Dutch coach Martin Koopman as their new boss.
The 64-year old was introduced to the playing body ahead of the 11-1 victory against lower-tier outfit Miracle Land FC earlier today at the club’s training ground, Kpobiman Sports Complex.
Per reports, Martin Koopman was handed the Hearts of Oak job following a recommendation by his compatriot, Rene Hiddink, who was appointed as the new technical director of the club a fortnight ago.
The arrival of the Dutch international ends the club’s long search for a substantive Coach. Hearts of Oak has been without a substantive Coach since the departure of Slavko Matic in March following a string of poor results.
Following the departure of Matic, David Ocloo who mutually parted ways with the club at the end of the 2022/23 was named as interim boss, leading the team to a 12th place finish in the betPawa Premier League.
Martin Koopman arrives at Hearts of Oak with huge experience, having managed more than 10 clubs in 4 different continents between 1989 to 2021.
The former Netherlands defender has managed FC Groningen, FC Den Bosch, Veendam, AS Vita Club, Saudi Arabia, Shenyang Ginde, Roda JC, Al Nassr, RKC Waalwijk, Aruba and most recently Maldives.
He also served as Assistant Coach at Go Ahead Eagles, Cambuur and Saudi Arabia.
At Hearts of Oak, Martin Koopman will work with compatriot Rene Hiddink (Technical Director), Jerry Adiei Asare (Goalkeeper Coach), Sebastian Barnes (Head of Scouting) and Carlos Klu (Welfare Officer).
Meanwhile, Mercy Tagoe will lead the female team, Oaks FC. Bernard Dong Bortey will handle Auroras, while Samuel Nii Noi will handle the juvenile team, Royals Oaks.
