Hearts of Oak reportedly sell Daniel Afriyie Barnieh

Ghana Premier League giants Hearts of Oak has transferred Daniel Afriyie Barnieh to FC Zurich of Switzerland, a report from Kumasi FM has disclosed.

Afriyie Barnieh will join the Swiss leader holders after the Championship of African Nations (CHAN) to take place from Friday, January 13 to Saturday, February 4, 2023.

Per the report from Kumasi FM, Hearts of Oak will receive $150,000 as a compensation fee rather than transfer fee for the player whose contract at the club was due to end on Saturday, December 31 but was renewed until after the CHAN tournament.

The report added that Hearts of Oak have a huge percentage of future sales in the deal to FC Zurich.

The development ends months of speculation which has seen Daniel Afriyie Barnieh linked to plethora of clubs in the World, including Leganes, Al Ahly and so on.

Barnieh became a subject of transfer following his exploits with Hearts of Oak in the betPawa Premier League and also with the various national teams.

The 21-year old has in the past two years featured for the Black Satellites (U-20), Black Meteors (U-23), the Black Galaxies and the senior national team, the Black Stars.

Barnieh led the U-20 team to win the 2021 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Mauritania. He also led the Black Galaxies to the 2023 CHAN to be played in Algeria next month, scoring 3 goals in Ghana’s 4 qualifying games.

The former Black Satellites skipper earned his first Black Stars start in a 2-0 friendly win against Switzerland last month. Barnieh also played a crucial role for the Black Meteors in their victory against Mozambique in the qualifiers for the U-23 AFCON.
