Hearts of Oak legend Amankwah Mireku has advised Daniel Afriyie Barnieh to extend his contract with the club.
Daniel Afriyie Barnieh who joined Hearts of Oak in December 2020 and has been a key member of the team since is on the verge of running is contract down with the club.
Per reports, the Black Stars forward has turned down numerous contract offers from the club and he’s likely to leave for free. However, club legend Amankwah Mireku has advised Barnieh to extend his contract with the club.
“Nobody knew Barnieh until he was with Hearts. There are some players on the same level as him who started with him as well but he was very fortunate to end up at Hearts of Oak.
“The platform he has received at Hearts isn’t the same and you can’t compare that to some clubs in the league,” said Amankwah Mireku who played for the team for more than a decade on Happy FM.
“We have many players who have won goal kings and could also be equally good or better than Barnieh but because they don’t have such platforms we barely heard of them. For me Barnieh is fortunate that he has such a platform at Hearts of Oak and to God’s glory he has also done his best to be recognized.”
“The decision is about his life and not anyone else’s or even his manager. It’s not about his family or friends or what anyone says but for his future. Because when it goes well for him then his family and whoever else can benefit.
“When he was moving to Hearts where was the agent at the time? So for me he shouldn’t be ungrateful, and if I was him I would allow my agency and manager to sit with the club and discuss the necessary stuff but most importantly for the club to also reap their benefits for investing,” he added.
Amid the reports of Barnieh leaving as a free agent, spokesperson of the club, Kwame Opare Addo has divulged that the player has promised to extend his contract with the club.
“Authorities have sat down with Afriyie Barnieh over his contract issues for a very long time,” Opare Addo told Happy FM.
“The player has made the club understand that he will sign the contract extension and we are patiently waiting for him to do so because he has promised the club.”
“We have always communicated with Barnieh’s agent and the player himself and the assurance has always been the same so we are only hopeful that the consistent assurance would materialize,” he added.
Meanwhile, Daniel Afriyie Barnieh has been included in Ghana’s 25-man squad for the pre-tournament trip to Egypt for the 2022 CHAN tournament in Algeria.
The Black Galaxies are pitted in Group C alongside Madagascar, Sudan and Morocco for the competition to be played from Friday, January 13, 2023 to Friday, February 3, 2023.
