Having Charles Taylor and Don Bortey in one team was “abnormal” – Hon. Paul Asamoah Gyimah

Former management member of Asante Kotoko Hon. Paul Asamoah Gyimah has divulged the reason that led his side Kotoko to snatch “football terrorist” Charles Taylor from the grasp of rivals Hearts of Oak.

The former chairman of the league board who’s now a politician in an interview on Asempa FM Sports Avenue One show revealed that the quality of Charles Taylor and Don Bortey was too strong for one team to possess, hence it made it impossible for oppositions to break hearts down.

“We had to break the Hearts team by separating those two players, Hearts had too much quality in their squad, and it was very difficult for Asante Kotoko to break them”.

“We knew Hearts had top stars including Don Bortey, Charles Taylor, Osei Kuffour, Edmund Copson, and that team was difficult to beat, so we had to break them by separating their squad including signing Charles Taylor from them, we did everything in our strides to win the player” he added.

Charles Taylor joined Kotoko in 2003 in what is one of the most controversial moves ever in the Ghana Premier league. In 2003, Charles Taylor led Kotoko to a league triumph for the first time in 10 years.
