Ghanaian midfielder Bernard Mensah tests positive for Covid-19

Ghanaian midfielder Bernard Mensah has tested positive for Covid-19, Besiktas has announced.

Mensah tested positive for Covid-19 after a routine Covid-19 test was carried by the club on his return from international assignment with Ghana Black Stars.

“On the return of our football player Bernard Mensah to the Ghana National Team camp where he was invited, the routine Covid-19 PCR test applied by our club was positive.

“Bernard Mensah’s follow-up and treatment process has been initiated in accordance with the relevant protocols.

“It is announced to the public with respect,” a statement translated from Turkish and signed by the club’s Health Board Coordinator, Dr. Tekin Kerem Ülkü said.

Reacting to the worrying news, the player has revealed through his Twitter account that he’s doing fine.

“Hello everyone i am fine, i feel good. Dont worry .. thanks for your support 🦅🦅🦅,” Mensah wrote on Twitter.

Mensah after being away from the Black Stars for five years earned a call up to feature in friendlies against Mali and Qatar.

He featured in the game against Mali, where Ghana lost 3-0, but was an unused sub in the game against Qatar.

The former Atletico Madrid player becomes the second member of the Black Stars team to test positive for Covid-19 after Jones Abu Alhassan.

According to unconfirmed reports, the management team of the Black Stars as well as Ghana FA delegation including Kurt Okraku have been quarantined in Turkey following the reported cases.
