Ghanaian legends Stephen Appiah and Asamoah Gyan react to Kwadwo Asamoah’s retirement

Ghanaian legends Stephen Appiah and Asamoah Gyan have eulogized former teammate Kwadwo Asamoah following his retirement from football.

On Tuesday, Kwadwo Asamoah who’s widely known for his versatility and wonderful left-foot announced his retirement from football at the age of 33

Following the retirement, Stephen Appiah and Asamoah Gyan who played with Kwadwo Asamoah in the Black Stars for numerous years took to social media to shower approbations on him.

Stephen Appiah wrote: “Sharing the pitch with you was an absolute joy. Enjoy retirement bro.”

Asamoah Gyan on the other hand wrote: “Great player by all standards. It was great to play with you bro. Enjoy your retirement bro.”

Kwadwo Asamoah spent his entire senior football career in Italy, playing for Udinese, Juventus, Inter Milan and most recently Cagliari.

The 33-year old made a total of 279 league appearances for the 4 clubs, becoming the African player with the most appearances in Seria A. He also won 13 trophies, all coming during his time with Juventus.

At international level, Kwadwo Asamoah made 74 appearances for the Ghana national team and scored 4 goals. He represented the team at multiple Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournaments and also at the World Cup in 2010 and 2014.

Kwadwo Asamoah’s incredible display for club and country personally won him the CAF Most Promising African Player award in 2010, Ghana Player of the Year in 2012 and 2013.

He also appeared in the CAF Team of the Year in 2014, the 2013/14 Seria A Team of the Year and the Africa Cup of Nations Team of the Tournament in the 2010 and 2012 editions.

Kwadwo Asamoah hangs his boots as one of the best players Ghana and the African continent has ever produced.
