Ghana will no longer participate in the Austria Mini Football Tournament scheduled to take place in Austria between Saturday, August 20 to Saturday, August 27.
This comes in after the organizers of the four-team competition cancelled the competition due to challenges faced by participating teams in securing a visa.
“We regret to inform you that the Austrian Summer Trophy taking place between the 20th-27th August has been unfortunately cancelled,” said the organizers of the competition in a letter sent to all participating teams.
“We are extremely sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you or your clients however these extenuating circumstances were out of our hands.”
“The reason far the cancellation is due to the teams having their Visa obstructed to Austria, leaving the teams unable to attend the tournament.
“We wauld like to express our sincerest apalogy once again for this cancellation, which was not at all anticipated,” the letter ended.
Ghana was scheduled to compete in the competition with Qatar, Jamaica and Morocco at the Ernst-Happel-Stadion in Austria.
With a number of European leagues already underway, Ghana was to be represented by the local national team, the Black Galaxies.
But with the latest development, the team will now have to focus on the 2023 TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers against Nigeria.
The Black Galaxies will take on their bitterest rivals at the Cape Coast Stadium on Sunday, August 28 in the first leg, before traveling to Abuja for the second leg on Sunday, September 3rd.
The winner of the tie will secure a place at the 2023 CHAN tournament to be played in Algeria next year. Ghana has failed to make the last three editions of the CHAN, losing to Burkina Faso in the last two editions.
