Ghana defeated Central African Republic 2-1 to top Group E of the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON), in the process securing a place at the competition proper.
Central African Republic stunned the home crowd when they took the lead in the 25th minute, Louis Mafouta latched onto a precise through ball and went round goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi, before tapping the ball into the net.
Buoyed by the home support, the Black Stars after going down stepped their game up and pulled parity in the 43rd minute, Mohammed Kudus struck home a perfect free-kick from the edge of the box.
The game looked like it was ending in a draw but Ghana stole the win in the 89th minute, substitute Antoine Semenyo robbed the ball off a defender to set up Ernest Nuamah who made no mistake from close range, 2-1.
Ghana nearly extended their lead in additional time, but an effort from Antoine Semenyo struck the post as the game ended 2-1.
The 2-1 win sees Ghana top Group E with 12 points, in the process securing a place at the AFCON to be played in Ivory Coast in January and February next year.
Angola as well qualify to the AFCON after drawing scoreless at home to Madagascar, finishing in second place with 9 points.
