GFA announce friendly game for Black Meteors ahead of U-23 AFCON

The Black Meteors of Ghana will play their Egyptian counterparts in a high profile friendly match during their training tour in Cairo.

The International friendly will take place on Thursday, June 15 at the Alexandria stadium as both teams aim to use the match to prepare for the TotalEnegies U-23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.

Egypt will go into the tournament as defending champions having won the last edition in 2019, while Ghana are hoping to make amends after finishing fourth in the last edition.

The Pharaohs are paired with Mali, Gabon and Niger while Ghana are housed in Group B with Morocco, Guinea and Congo.

The U-23 AFCON which will be played in Morocco from Saturday, June 24 to Saturday, July 8, 2023 will serve as qualifiers for the next Olympics in Paris, France.

The top three teams from the competition will automatically qualify to the Olympics, while the 4th-placed team will play against a team from Asia in a playoffs to decide the final slot at the Olympics.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Football Association is working hard to secure one more match for the team to give the players adequate preparation before they depart for the tournament in Morocco.
