Former Head Coach of Accra Hearts of Oak Kim Grant has leapt to the defense of Daniel Afriyie Barnieh over his reluctancy to sign a new contract with the Phobians.
Daniel Afriyie Barnieh’s contract at the club he joined as a free agent in December 2020 will expire at the end of this month. Per reports, the Black Stars forward has turned down numerous contract offers from the club and he’s likely to leave for free.
“He’s played two years for the club. He has been successful in helping the club win championships and qualify for Africa,” said Kim Grant who managed the team from 2018-2019.
“The player has every right to refuse the new contract but you have to look at Hearts of Oak, why did they not put a new contract before he was very very successful.”
“He is not selfish, he is a football player. He wants to play in the best leagues in the world. I think people should be kind to Barnieh a bit,” he added.
Meanwhile, former player of the club Prince Tagoe has advised Barnieh to be patient and not be in a rush to leave the club.
“I rejected an offer from PSG in 2006 to complete a season at Hearts of Oak and I was the Top Scorer.
“I moved to Saudi for €2m the following year and had good offers from Europe. Afriyie Barnieh shouldn’t rush to leave Hearts of Oak,” said Prince Tagoe said on Angel TV.
