Erstwhile Ghana U-20 and Inter Allies forward Prosper Kasim has opened up on his hectic spell at IFK Göteborg.
Prosper Kasim after helping Inter Allies secure Premier league promotion in 2013 signed his first Professional contract with the club. He spent two seasons with the club and in the process became a household name in the Premier league.
The 23-year-old’s astounding performances for Inter Allies earned him a move to Sweden to play for 18 times Sweden champions IFK Göteborg.
However, the youngster struggled in his first season at IFK Göteborg, he failed to break into the first team.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Soccer Mundial, Prosper Kassim opened up on why it was so.
“IFK Göteborg is one of the biggest clubs in Sweden, but they where struggling in the league that year and so therefore were result oriented. They didn’t have that ample time to play we the young ones in the team,” Prosper told Soccer Mundial.
After failing to break into the first team at Göteborg, Prosper was sent on loan to Superettan side Norrby IF in 2017. He was again sent on loan to Sweden Division One side Mjällby AIF in 2018, where he scored 10 goals in 27 appearances.
Prosper’s time at Göteborg finally came to an end in 2019, he agreed to join USL Championship side Birmingham Legion. The youngster who idolizes Brazilian legend Ronaldinho made only 4 appearances for IFK Göteborg in 4 seasons.
Kasim in his first season in America won the Most Valuable Player and also the Goal King award. Prosper believed his hectic time in Sweden shaped him up to achieve that feat.
“Those accolades never came on a silver platter. My time at Sweden was a hectic one in my football career as it was really a frustrating one. Training whole week without getting game time was very difficult for me. All what I went through in Sweden really shaped me. It was a good platform and I learnt a lot which made me to excel in Birmingham Legion.”
Prosper went on to thank everyone who has been helpful in his career. He prayed that the peaceful and harmonious living in Ghana continues to prevail during this election year.
“Big thanks to everyone who helped me in anyway to reach this level. They should keep supporting me and praying for me. As election is fast approaching, am hoping and praying that the peace we’ve lived and enjoyed in continues to prevail prior and after the elections,” he concluded.
Prosper has previously featured for Ghana U-20. The Birmingham Legion player dreams of donning the jersey of the Black Stars someday.
