Chelsea have made contact with Ajax to express an interest in signing Ghanaian international Mohammed Kudus, an exclusive report from the Athletic has confirmed.
The reports adds that the Premier League club is yet to submit an official offer for the attacking midfielder, however initial dialogue has taken place.
Mohammed Kudus is among a number of options Chelsea are considering and an agreement with the Ghana international on personal terms is close.
Kudus who joined Ajax in 2020 from Danish fold Nordsjaelland and is under contract with the club until 2025 is keen to leave, having rejected a one-year extension in April this year.
The 22-year-old is also on the wanted list of numerous top clubs, including Arsenal, Manchester United, Newcastle United and so on.
Chelsea will have to intensify their efforts and wrap up a deal for the Ghanaian midfielder to avoid any competition from the aforementioned clubs. A deal could reportedly be agreed around £40 million.
Kudus enjoyed his best season since arriving in Europe last season, scoring 18 goals and providing 7 assists in 42 appearances in all competitions for Ajax last season.
He also scored twice for Ghana in a 3-2 win against South Korea in the group stages of the World Cup in Qatar in November.
