Ex-Black Stars goalkeeper William Amamoo lauds “disciplined” Sulley Muntari

Former Ghana goalkeeper William Amamoo has leapt to the defense of former teammate Sulley Muntari, describing him as one of the most disciplined players he saw during his time with the senior national team.

Sulley Muntari during his active days with the Black Stars came under lots of criticism over disciplinary issues.

During the World Cup in 2014, the former Inter Milan midfielder was expelled from camp and suspended indefinitely after he was involved in an altercation with a Black Stars management member.

Despite the controversies surrounding Sulley Muntari on his disciplinary, Amamoo revealed that Sulley Muntari is one of the most disciplined players he saw during his time with the Black Stars, he added that Muntari is always misunderstood.

“No Ghanaian should ever think that Sulley Muntari is indiscipline player. He is one of the most respectful players. The only problem is when you offend him but when it comes to discipline he is number one”, he said in an interview. 

“For instance issues with allowances or bonuses, he will not kowtow to those things. 

“Just get closer to him and you see a different person. People did not give Sulley the chance to explain himself when the issues,” he added.

William Amamoo represented Ghana between 2008 and 2010, making 3 appearances.
