Every striker in this world has that one defender who’s always like a thorn in the flesh anytime they meet, and Eric Bekoe who was unstoppable in the 2008/09 Premier league season isn’t any different.

The former Kotoko striker was proficient in the Premier league that season, winning the best player and the top scorers award.

Bekoe during that time faced numerous tough defenders, his memorable moment against a defender came when he faced Hearts of Oak at the Accra Sports Stadium that season.

Bekoe was policed throughout the match by Dan Coleman. Coleman never took an eye off Bekoe or gave him a breathing space. He man marked him till the extent that he followed Bekoe to the touchline when Coach Bashir Hayford called him for tactical instructions.

However, when Bekoe was asked who the toughest defender he faced was, he snubbed Coleman and named Jonathan Mensah, who was by then playing for Ashanti Gold.

“The only defender who took me to the naked wire in a match through out my career is Jonathan Mensah. Not even Daniel Coleman will come near to him. He gave me my worst moment which stopped me from scoring,” he told Opemsuo Radio.

Bekoe also played for Mighty Jets, Liberty Professionals, Hearts of Lions, Berekum Chelsea and Sekondi Hasaacas on the local scene. He’s currently without a club.
