Chairman of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), Kudjo Fianoo has divulged that 2019 UEFA Champions League finalists Tottenham Hotspurs will be involved in the next President Cup.
Kudjo Fianoo revealed that GHALCA is working on fixing a game between the club the president supports locally and internationally.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has in the past declared his love for Asante Kotoko and Tottenham Hotspurs. In 2019, he travelled to Madrid to support Tottenham Hotspurs in their 2-0 defeated to Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League final.
“There are plans to honor the president with the clubs he supports locally and internationally in the next edition of the President Cup,” Kudjo Fianoo said on Precise FM.
“This is the plan we have for the president cup but we are involving Kotoko and Hearts this year because that plan has not been concluded.
“We have involved clubs outside Ghana in the past and per what we are looking at, the president’s tenure expires in 2024 and we are aware he supports Tottenham Hotspurs so after this year we are looking at engaging authorities in bringing Tottenham Hotspurs to Ghana to play against the club the president supports in Ghana,” he added.
The President Cup which is played in honor of the sitting president of Ghana returns after two years absence. This year’s edition will be played Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko on Friday, March 4, 2022 at the Accra Sports Stadium at 6:00 pm.
The last edition was won by Asante Kotoko after they came from a goal down to beat Hearts of Oak 2-1 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in December 2019.
Asante Kotoko have won the trophy the most, winning it on 6 occasions, 2 more than bitterest rivals Hearts of Oak.
