Emmanuel Yeboah hits hattrick as Black Meteors thump Egyptian giants Zamalek

The Black Meteors wrapped up their training tour in Cairo, Egypt for the 2023 TotalEnergies U23 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) with a 4-1 win against Zamalek at the Zamalek Sports Complex.

Head Coach Ibrabim Tanko made numerous changes to the team that drew 1-1 with the Egypt U-23 last Thursday.

Ghana opened the scoring after just 11 minutes of play through Emmanuel Yeboah. The lead didn’t last long as Zamalek drew parity 5 minutes later.

Emmanuel Yeboah restored Ghana’s lead in the 25th minute, before scoring again in the 41st minute to grab his hat-trick the the team’s third.

Two minutes later, Emmanuel Appau scored to extend Ghana’s lead to 4-1. Before the halftime break, Zamalek was awarded a spot-kick but goalkeeper Jordan Amissah saved the kick.

In the second, Coach Ibrahim Tanko made a number of changes as the team pushed for more goals but failed to take their changes as the game ended 4-1.

The friendly game wraps up Ghana’s preparations in Cairo for the 2023 U23 AFCON to be staged in Morocco from Saturday, June 24 to Saturday, July 8, 2023.

The team is expected to leave its training base in Cairo on Wednesday and continue its preparations in Rabat, Morocco.

Ghana will kickoff their campaign against Congo on Sunday, June 25, before playing Morocco on Tuesday, June 27 and then Guinea on Friday, June 30.

Two best teams from Group A and B will advance to the semifinals stage of the competition.

Winner of the tournament and the two runner ups will qualify to compete in the 2024 Olympic Games Mens Soccer competition in Paris next year.
