Ghanaian clubs Sekondi Hasaacas and Elmina Sharks have allegedly been involved in a match fixing scandal. The match between the two clubs was played at the Essipong Stadium on Thursday 19th December, 2019. Hasaacas on the day beat the Elmina based side 4-0.
Management of Elmina Sharks yesterday released a press statement denying it arranged a match of such sort and stated categorically that the last match the club played was against Medeama at the Ndoum Sports Complex on Wednesday 18th December, 2019.
According to Elmina Sharks, preliminary investigations shows that persons contacted the academy side of Elmina sharks without the knowledge of management to engage in the match. Elimina sharks have henceforth dissolved their academy side and all those involved have been sanctioned. Police is still investigating the matter.
Sekondi Hasaacas this morning responded to the allegations of the fake match. According to Hasaacas, the game was organized by Joseph Arthur and was played in two-legs with the first leg held at the Ndoum Sports Complex on September 13, 2019 in Elmina. Sekondi Hasaacas reported they played no part in the organization of both games.
Sekondi Hasaacas after sighting the press from Elmina Sharks lodged a complaint at the Central police station, Takoradi. Joseph Arthur, organizer of both matches is currently in police custody aiding investigation.
Management of Sekondi Hasaacas appealed to management of Elmina Sharks to provide and assist the police with the necessary evidence at it disposal.
