Daniel Afriyie Barnieh scored twice in the second half to give the Black Meteors a vital 2-1 victory against Mozambique in the first leg of the TotalEnergies African U23 Championship (AFCON) qualifier at the Estadio Nacional do Zimpeto.
The first half of the game ended scoreless. Ghana dominated the half and created the best chances, but they were denied by a combination of good defending and goalkeeping.
The Black Meteors continued to dominate the game and scored two goals from the spot-kick in the 63rd and 75th minute through Daniel Afriyie.
Later in the game, Mozambique pulled a goal back to give themselves hope of a comeback but Ghana stayed resilient to win 2-1.
The 2-1 victory gives the Black Meteors the advantage going into the second leg on Sunday, October 30 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
