Daniel Afriyie hits hat-trick as Black Galaxies whitewash Tudu Mighty Jets in friendly encounter

Ghana’s local national team, the Black Galaxies defeated Division One side Tudu Mighty Jets 8-0 in a friendly encounter at the Accra Sports Stadium earlier today.

Hearts of Oak forward Daniel Afriyie Barnieh scored a hat-trick, Great Olympics’ Maxwell Abbey Quaye and Umar Bashiru of Karela United grabbed braces. The other goal was scored by Hearts of Oak’s youngster Suraj Seidu.

The win was the team’s second consecutive win in two days. Ghana defeated lower-tier outfit Africa Talent United 3-0 in a similar exercise at the Accra Sports Stadium on Wednesday.

The friendly games forms part of preparations for the 2023 TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier against Nigeria.

Ghana will take on Nigeria in the first leg of the qualifier at the Cape Coast Stadium on Sunday, August 28. The second leg is scheduled for Sunday, September 3rd in Abuja.

The winner of the tie will secure a place at the 2023 CHAN tournament to be played in Algeria next year.

Ghana has failed to make the last three editions of the CHAN, losing to Burkina Faso in the last two editions.
