Curtains drawn in England and in Germany, it goes down to the wire in Italy and in Spain

When Stuart Attwell blew the final whistle to bring proceedings to an end at the Stamford Bridge, Chelsea had defeated Manchester City 2-1 and it meant that Liverpool lead the league table with 23 points and with 7 games to go.

It meant that Liverpool have an unassailable lead at the top of the standings and their 30-year wait for a Premier league trophy was over. Liverpool are Premier league champions.

In Germany, Bayern Munich were crowned Champions after a 1-0 away victory against relegation threatened Werder Bremen in match day 32.

The 1-0 victory put them 7 points clear off 2nd placed Borussia Dortmund with just 2 games to go. They won their 8th league title in 10 years.

Elsewhere in Spain, Barcelona resumed the league after the coronavirus pandemic with all in their hands. They resumed the league with a 2 point lead over Real Madrid, but things have turned around after Barcelona drew against Sevilla and Celta Vigo. Barcelona now find themselves 2 points behind Madrid.

With six games to go, Real Madrid find themselves at the top of the table with 71 points as compared to Barcelona 68 points.

Zidane’s side look to be running away with the title as they also have a better head to head record against their old nemesis, having taken four points from Barcelona this term, a scoreless game at the Camp Nou in November and a 2-0 victory inspired by Marcelo and Vinicius at the Bernabeu in February.

It is now advantage Real Madrid who have to just win 5 and draw 1 of their remaining 6 games to finish top.

Real Madrid are presented with another opportunity as Barcelona still have to play Atlético Madrid at home, Villareal away from home. There’s also a Catalan derby against Espanyol at Camp Nou.

Real Madrid’s daunting ties will be at home to Getafe, away to Athletic Bilbao and Villareal at home, but considering current form, all 3 fixtures are winnable.

With 2 points lead, favorable fixtures and good squad depth, the ball is in Real Madrid’s court, their fate is in their own hands.

The situation isn’t any different in Italy as Juventus lead the way with 69 points, Lazio follow closely with 65 points.

But the title race is still alive with the two clubs challenging for the title still have to play each other and there are 10 games more to go. Both sides are presented with some daunting ties in the 10 remaining games.
