Coach of Tiyumbu Ladies, Iddrisu Suweiru Napari(Coach Kubli) has been arrested and is currently in Police custody, Ghana Police Service has confirmed.
Iddrisu Suweiru Napari is arrested over physical assault on center referee, Mohammed Sakina Nasara, in Division 1B match played on Saturday, June 17, 2023 between Tiyumba Ladies and Soccer Missionary Ladies at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale.
The match ended abruptly in the 38th minute following the pitch invasion and subsequent assault of the referee by the Coach of Tiyumbu Ladies.
Iddrisu Suweiru Napari after the disgraceful act which left Referee Mohammed Sakina Nasara in the hospital bed went into hiding but was arrested on Monday, June 20 after voluntarily handing himself to the police admitting the criminal offence he committed.
Before his arrest, the Tiyumbu Ladies coach rendered an apology to his victim, her family and the entire football fraternity. Coach Kubli will be put before court in the coming days to face justice.
Meanwhile, the Northern Region FA and the District FA has relived Coach Napari from all positions he held on their committees, while Referee Sakina Nasara has been discharged by the hospital and will be reporting to the hospital periodically.
Also, Inspector-General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare, has engaged the Chairman of the Ghana FA, Mr. Kurt Okraku and the Director-General of the National Sports Authority, Professor Peter Twumasi on the matter.
He urged them to notify the Police ahead of all football matches in the lower leagues as is being done for the Premier League in order for the Police to put in place adequate measures that will ensure security, law and order during these matches.
