The Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) has announced the temporal suspension of first choice goalkeeper André Onana due to indiscipline.

André Onana who has 34 caps for the Cameroon national team was due to start for Cameroon in their second Group G game of the Qatar 2022 World Cup against Serbia on Monday. However, he didn’t even make the match day squad.

Per Spanish tabloid, Marca, Onana was left out after he was involved in a heated argument with Head Coach Rigobert Song.

The argument came after Song shouted at the keeper during training for taking too many risks playing with his feet, and Onana refused to change his game.

“The Cameroon Football Federation hereby informs the public that following Mr. Rigobert Song Bahanag’s decision, Head Coach of the Indomitable Lions, the player André Onana has been temporarily suspended from the group for disciplinary reasons,” said the Cameroon FA in a press statement.

“The Cameroon Football Federation reiterates its full support to the Head Coach and his entire staff as they implement the Federation’s policy aimed at preserving discipline, solidarity, complementarity and cohesion within the national team.”

“FECAFOOT further reaffirms its commitment to create a peaceful atmosphere for the team and to provide them with adequate facilities for an outstanding performance,” the statement added.

In the absence of Onana, Devis Epassy, who plays his club football for Abha in Saudi Arabia started in goal as Cameroon came from 3-1 down to draw 3-3 with Switzerland, keeping their World Cup hopes alive.

The Indomitable Lions will need a win in their final game against Brazil on Friday, December 2 to advance to the knockout round.

  1. All this is not correct football is changing and if onana is better playing with his feet and his accurate then let them give him trust he needs ,because when you watch him play he knows how to control the defense line and calms the tension at the back line is not only what the coach thinks that is right he should also know that change is not over night and that he doesn’t expect him to just change his system let learn to trust our players decisions he has the skills and knowledge more than what the coach see when he is in the field and knows how do his job
