Head Coach of Brighton & Hove Albion, Roberto De Zerbi has opened up on his club’s reported move for Ghanaian international Mohammed Kudus.

Per a report from the Athletic on Saturday, Brighton & Hove Albion have reached an agreement in principle with Ajax to sign Mohammed Kudus.

The agreement is reported to be in the region of €40million (£34.5m; $44m), becoming the club’s record purchase — surpassing the price paid for Joao Pedro this summer, which was just under £30million.

The reports further stipulates that Mohammed Kudus is close to agreeing personal terms with the Premier League club and a deal would be wrapped up in the coming.

Speaking at a press conference on Sunday after Brighton’s 1-1 draw with Rayo Vallecano, Roberto De Zerbi divulged that he has no idea of the situation with the deal.

“I don’t know the situation with that deal… we have a lot of strikers,” De Zerbi said in a press conference. “We will see at the end of the window,” he added.

Kudus who joined Ajax in 2020 from Danish fold Nordsjaelland and is under contract with the club until 2025 is keen to leave, having rejected a one-year extension in April this year.

The 22-year-old is also on the wanted list of Chelsea and Arsenal, thus, Brighton will have to intensify their efforts and wrap up a deal for the Ghanaian midfielder to avoid any competition from the two clubs

Mohammed Kudus was fantastic for club and country throughout last season. He scored 18 goals and provided 7 assists in 42 appearances for Ajax in all competitions

The youngster scored twice for Ghana, with both goals coming in a 3-2 win against South Korea in the group stages of the World Cup in Qatar in November.
