Former Black Stars midfielder Derek Boateng has urged the current Black Stars technical team to build a team around Ajax youngster Mohammed Kudus.
The comments from Derek Boateng who played for the Black Stars from 2001 to 2013 and made 47 appearances comes in after Ghana’s exit from the group stages of the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
With 2 goals from 3 games, Kudus was patently Ghana’s best performer at the competition and Derek Boateng believes it is now time to build a team around him.
“It is about time we start building the team around Kudus Mohammed because all the players those players we thought they can do something for us are not stepping up in big moments. So, I think Kudus is the player we have to start building the team around him.”
“We lost against Uruguay and couldn’t qualify; I think this is the time that we have to come back and ensure the right things are done at the right time.”
“Honestly speaking, the way the team played broke my heart, I have been in such situation before with the national team, it really breaks my heart, I’m speechless and even forcing myself to talk at the moment.”
Ghana bowed out of the group stages of the World Cup with 3 points, losing 3-2 to Portugal, beating South Korea 3-2 and losing 2-0 to Uruguay in the final group game.
