Coach Ibrahim Tanko has handed called up to twenty-two Black Meteors to begin camping on Tuesday, May 23, at the Ghanaman Centre of Excellence at Prampram ahead of the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations in June.
The players who are drawn from clubs in the betPawa Premier League and some lower tier clubs in Ghana are to report at 3pm on Tuesday, May 23.
The squad will trimmed down and will be augmented with some few foreign based players, the likes of Nordsjaellnd’s Ernest Nuamah, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku of Sporting CP, Daniel Afriyie Barnieh of FC Zurich and so on are expected to make the final squad.
The Black Meteors are paired with host Morocco, Guinea and Congo in Group A of the competition that serves as qualifiers for the next Olympics in Paris, France.
Ghana will kickoff their campaign against Congo on Saturday, June 24, before playing Morocco on Tuesday, June 27 and then Guinea on Friday, June 30.
The U-23 AFCON will be played from Saturday, June 24 to Saturday, July 8, 2023. The top three teams from the competition will automatically qualify to the Olympics, while the 4th-placed team will play against a team from Asia in a playoffs to decide the final slot at the Olympics.
