Black Meteors boss Ibrahim Tanko hands call-up to twenty four (24) players to begin camping for final round games of the AFCON U-23 qualifiers

Head Coach of the Black Meteors (U-23) Ibrahim Tanko has handed call-up to Twenty four (24) players to report to camp at the Ghanaman Centre of Excellence at Prampram on Monday, February 27, 2023 to begin preparations for the Africa U-23 Cup of Nation qualifiers.

The invited players include the likes of Premier League top scorer Mezack Afriyie, Ibrahim Danlad, Samuel Ashie Quaye, Augustine Randolph, Suraj Seidu, Dominic Nsobila, Abass Samari, Clinton Doudou and so on.

Peterborough’s Kwame Poku is the only foreign based player included in the squad expected to report to camp in Prampram on Monday by 2pm.

Ghana will play the winner of the match between Ethiopia and Algeria following the disqualification of DR Congo by the CAF Disciplinary Board. Congo lost their slot after fielding an unqualified player in matches against Ethiopia and Algeria in the 1st and 2nd round stages of the qualifiers.

The winner of the playoff scheduled for March 8 to 9 and March 12 to 13 will face Ghana in the final round of the qualifiers slated for the weekend of March 17 to 19 and March 25-27, with the winner securing a place at the U-23 AFCON to be played in Morocco this year.

The final tournament of the U-23 AFCON which will see 8 teams together with host nation Morocco compete will serve as qualifiers for the 2024 Olympic Games to be held in Paris.

The Black Meteors missed out on the 2020 Olympics in Japan after finishing 4th at the U-23 AFCON in Egypt. Ghana is yet to play at the Olympic Games since 2004 in Greece.
