Black Galaxies to jet off to Egypt this weekend to continue preparations for 2022 CHAN

The Black Galaxies will depart Accra for Cairo, Egypt on Saturday, December 24, 2022 to continue their preparations for the Championship of African Nations (CHAN) Algeria 2023 tournament.

The team has been camping at the Ghanaman Centre of Excellence at Prampram for the past two weeks as part of the build up to the biennial showpiece.

Annor Walker’s squad for the competition which is created for players who are playing in their country’s own domestic league is expected to be dominated by some big Premier League names.

The likes of Daniel Afriyie Barnieh, Gladson Awako, Suraj Seidu, Jonnah Attuquaye, Augustine Randolf, Dominic Nsobila, Razak Kasim, David Abagna, Dennis Korsah, Ibrahim Danlad and so on are expected to make squad.

The Black Galaxies will play a number of high profile International friendlies during their stay in Egypt in readiness for the tournament which kicks off on Friday, January 13, 2023 and will run till Friday, February 3, 2023.

Ghana will be making a record 4th CHAN appearance having played in the tournament in 2009, 2011 and 2014 in Cote D’Ivoire, Sudan and South Africa respectively.

The Black Galaxies are drawn in Group C of those years edition alongside holders Morocco, two-time bronze winners Sudan and debutants Madagascar.

Ghana will kickoff their campaign against Madagascar on Sunday, January 15, before playing Sudan on Thursday, January 19 and then Morocco on Monday, January 23.

The West African giants will be hoping to win the ultimate for the first time. Ghana have made it to the final of the competition twice, losing 2-0 to DR Congo in the 2009 edition and on penalty shootouts to Libya in the 2014 edition.
