Black Galaxies and Mozambique friendly clash ends abruptly

Ghana’s local national team, the Black Galaxies’ final friendly game ahead of the commencement of the Championship of African Nations (CHAN) against Mozambique at the 5 July 1962 Stadium ended abruptly.

The game ended in the 70th minute when Ghana were awarded a penalty after a Mozambique player handled the ball in the box. Head Coach of the Mozambique team was unhappy with the decision, hence ordered his players to leave the pitch.

Numerous efforts by the officials of the Black Galaxies to persuade the Coach of the Mozambique team to overturn his decision were inefficacious.

At the time when the incident happened, Mozambique were 1-0 up courtesy a goal scored in the first half of the game.

The game is Ghana’s final friendly game ahead of the CHAN tournament to be played in Algeria from Friday, January 13 to Saturday, February 4, 2023.

Ghana in their past three friendly games defeated Egypt’s Under-20 side and Egyptian giants Al Ahly by 2-0 and 3-1 respectively, before drawing 0-0 against the Algeria local national team.

The Black Galaxies who are making a fourth appearance at the CHAN and are hoping to win the ultimate for the first time in their history will face Sudan, Madagascar and Morocco in the group stages of this year’s edition.
