The Black Galaxies will participate in the Austria Mini Football Tournament despite reports of the tournament being cancelled.
A letter dated August 17, 2022 and signed by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Pro International Marketing Yousif Al-Khafajy indicated that the 7-day competition scheduled to take place in Austria has been cancelled.
Per the letter, the tournament was cancelled due to the difficulties faced by the participating teams to secure a visa.
However, the situation has changed and the competition will go on as previously planned. The Ghana local national, the Black Galaxies who will be representing Ghana in the competition departed Accra on Friday evening for Austria.
The competition will see Ghana battle with Qatar, Jamaica and Morocco at the Stadion Wiener Neustadt in Austria for the ultimate.
The Black Galaxies were scheduled to kick start their campaign against Jamaica on Saturday, August 20. However, the game has been cancelled due to Ghana’s expected time of arrival to the host nation.
The Black Galaxies are expected to land in Austria on Saturday, which is the day they are expected to play Jamaica.
With the newest development, Ghana will now play Qatar on Tuesday, August 23 and Morocco on Friday, August 26.
The two games forms part of preparations for the 2023 TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers against Nigeria.
Ghana will take on their bitterest rivals at the Cape Coast Stadium on Sunday, August 28 in the first leg, before traveling to Abuja for the second leg on Sunday, September 4th.
The winner of the tie will secure a place at the 2023 CHAN tournament to be played in Algeria next year. Ghana has failed to make the last three editions of the CHAN, losing to Burkina Faso in the last two editions.
