A week ago, the news surfaced the internet that Newcastle United winger Christian Atsu has retired from the Black Stars.
According to reports, the Newcastle winger felt neglected after he picked up an injury whiles playing for the Black Stars at the 2019 AFCON. An injury that cost him his place in the Newcastle starting 11.
Speaking to Owuraku Ampofo on Joy Sports, Abdul Haye Yartey who is a football administrator and a member of Christian Atsu’s management team was given the prerogative to clear the air on the reports.
“Well to be very honest with you with that, I’m not preview to that information. Christian have not discuss with me that he’s pulling out of the Black Stars. When the news came over, I actually spoke to him as well, and he said he doesn’t want to speak about it .”
“That anybody who want to know what is actually true or false basically needs to go through the head coach of Blacks Stars, because the person actually stated that he had a conversation with the head coach of the Black Star, so I think it is important that we respect his opinion and his decision not to talk about this,” he added.
“Everything is in the hands of the head coach, you need to give the boy an invitation. If you give Christian an invitation today to come and play again. As a player you need to very fit. If Christian is very fit, then he turns down the invitation, then it means Christian is not ready to play for the Black Stars.” he concluded.
All week, there's been various reports that Christian Atsu had decided to quit the Black Stars citing neglect over the injury he suffered in the 2019 AFCON.
