Asekem FC defeated Pro Players Academy 5-4 on penalties after a 1-1 draw game to secure promotion to the Division One League from the Ashanti Region.
Asekem against the run of play broke the deadlock in the 10th minute after capitalizing on a poor play from the opponent’s midfield, Douglas Owusu the goal scorer.
Pro Players probed in the remaining minutes of the first half but were denied the equalizer by poor finishing and the post as the game went into the break 1-0 in favor of Asekem.
Asekem came out for the second with added impetus. The Beposo-based side came close to doubling their lead in the 55th minute but an effort from Clifford Aboagye struck the post.
In the 67th minute, Pro Players scored to make it 1-1. Amano Williams struck the ball firmly into the net after he was teed-up in the box.
Both sides from then pushed bodies forward for the winner but to no avail as the game ended 1-1 and went into penalty shootouts.
Asekem won the shootouts 5-4 and in the process secured a place in the Division One League after losing to Future Stars in the final last season. The Beposo-based side will be amongst 16 teams to fight for Premier League promotion from Zone Two next season.
Also, Obuasi-based Nacoro Sporting Club defeated Centurio Life FC 4-1 on penalties after a 1-1 draw game to emerge winners of the Division Three Promotional League.
Benab Ajax as well defeated Kumasi Barcelona 2-0 to win the Juvenile U-17 final
