Youth Development coach of Asante Kotoko, George Asare has divulged that his outfit will sack about 10 players in the set up when football resumes to normalcy.
Asante Kotoko in November 2019 organised a five-day justify-your-inclusion exercise for the youth team, 40 outfield players and 10 goalkeepers were picked for the U-15 and U-19 youth sides.
Speaking to Kotoko Express App in an interview, George Asare confirmed that some of the players were not honest with their ages, thus they will part ways with them.
“We were able to get the correct ages and the quality that we wanted from the justifier,” he said.
“However, we did some background checks on them with the help of Deputy Accounts Officer, Richard Akoto and found that about seven to 10 of the players we were looking up to did not give us their correct ages.”
“We are going to keep the others and then move to the JHS and SHS for more talents. I have started talking to the schools. The players we will get from the JHS will go to the U-15 while the SHS players will go to the U-19”, he added.
Age cheating has in recent days become a very discussed topic in the Ghana football circles as majority believe it is the scourge of the development of Ghanaian youth players.
