Asante Kotoko reportedly reach agreement to sign Umar Bashiru

Ghana Premier League holders Asante Kotoko have reportedly reached an agreement to sign midfielder Umar Bashiru from Karela United.

Per widespread reports, the talented midfielder has agreed to join the Porcupine Warriors on a two year deal after successful negotiations, pending medicals and official announcement.

Umar Bashiru is making a return to Asante Kotoko after an unsuccessful spell in the 2018/19 season. The midfielder joined the Porcupine Warriors from WAFA in 2018.

However, his contract with the club was mutually terminated after he was deemed surplus requirement by then head coach Kjetil Zachariason.

Umar Bashiru signed for Karela United at the beginning of the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League season. The 25-year has gone to establish himself as one of the best midfielders in the country.

In the just ended season, he made 31 league appearances for the team, scored 14 goals, provided 4 assists and won 4 man of the match awards.

His amazing statistics earned him a call-up to the local national team for the 2023 TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers, where he has so far stolen the headlines with two brilliant assists against Benin.
