Kumasi Asante Kotoko has announced that their preseason trip to Turkey has officially been cancelled.
The Porcupine Warriors were initially scheduled to travel to Turkey last weekend for a 2-week preseason tour. However, the trip has been cancelled due to the difficulties in acquiring visa.
The club has now opted to travel to Sudan from 21st August 2022 to 1st September 2022 for the preseason tour, where they’ll engaged in friendly games against opponents qualified for CAF competitions.
The Porcupine Warriors will play their first friendly game against Sudanese Champions Al Hilal Omdurman on Tuesday, August 23 at the Al Hilal Stadium in Sudan.
“Our planned trip to Turkey for the second phase of our preseason has been cancelled due to issues related to delays in visa acquisition,” said the club in a statement.
“The club has therefore opted to travel to Sudan from 21st August 2022 to 1st September 2022 for the second phase of our preseason.
“We will be engaged in strategic friendly games with other opponents who have qualified for CAF competitions,” the statement ended.
The preseason trip forms part of the team’s preparations for the 2022/23 football season.
Asante Kotoko will officially begin the new season against rivals Hearts of Oak in the Super Cup on Sunday, September 4 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
The Porcupine Warriors will begin their Premier League title defense at home to new boys Nsoatreman between September 9-11.
Howbeit, that game is expected to be postponed due to the club’s involvement in the first round of the CAF Champions League qualifiers.
Asante Kotoko has been drawn against Burkinabe Champions RC Kadiogo.
